The Éislek region is a true paradise for anglers, with its lakes and waterways teeming with various species of fish, including trout, pike, pikeperch, eel, carp, and many others. However, angling in the region requires a license, which is mandatory for fishing in both Luxembourgish inland waters and those bordering Germany. Fortunately, obtaining a fishing license is a hassle-free process that can be completed in just a few minutes on MyGuichet.lu. Depending on the fishing zones and the period of validity desired, different types of licenses are available.

The inland water license grants access to specific areas, such as zone II of the Upper Sûre Lake. It also grants access to the Sûre River from Ettelbruck’s Alzette mouth to Wallendorf’s Our River mouth. On the other hand, the cross-border water license allows anglers to fish in other areas, such as the Our River from the Lieler border triangle to Wallendorf, which includes the Vianden reservoir.

The National Museum of Military History in Diekirch, Luxembourg was established in 1982 by a group of enthusiasts and volunteers. Since then, it has grown in popularity and is now recognized globally for its impartial and fair representation of historical events. It wants to promote cooperation and peace by keeping the memory of the atrocities of war alive.

The museum achieves its mission through its vast collection of exhibits. Such include life-size dioramas, thematic exhibits, weaponry, uniforms, vehicles, military gear, countless original photographs, and personal artifacts. These displays vividly portray how the combats of 1944/45 affected the region from the perspective of American, German, and civilian viewpoints. The museum’s top priority is to keep the memory of these events alive. It does so without resorting to simplistic analyses or black-and-white dualism. In total, the museum covers more than 3,500 square meters, immersing visitors in an experience that brings history to life.

The museum’s significance lies in its contribution to passing on the torch of remembrance to future generations. As the number of first-hand carriers of memory inevitably decreases, the museum aims to inform the public of the horrors of war through a different approach. By providing informative and impartial exhibits, the National Museum of Military History intends to promote peace and cooperation by keeping the memory of war alive. In doing so, the museum helps to ensure that we don’t forget the lessons learned from the past.

Relais Postal Museum

Gloria von Thurn and Taxis welcomes you to the Relais Postal Museum and tells you the story of the Relais from 1516 to 1680. From the clay tablet to steel feathers – immerse yourself in the heart of the evolution of writing. A magnificent collection of inkwells made of faience wood in different alloys composed of precious materials such as silver, leather, or crystal spans different styles and eras. Only three museums of this type exist in Europe (the other two are in Switzerland and the south of France).

Classroom of 1900

Our traditional Hotel du Moulin in Asselborn houses the captivating Relais Postal Museum. It offers visitors a fascinating insight into the evolution of writing instruments. Our museum showcases the tools that were once used by writers and scholars, including inkwells, quill pens, and early pencils, long before ballpoint pens and computers became popular. Visitors can actively explore an original classroom from 1900 at the Writing Instruments Museum and observe the historical instruments firsthand.

The Post Station Museum located within the “Domaine Touristique” takes visitors back to the 16th century, where they can experience the adventurous travel by stagecoach that was popular at the time. The building was used to water horses and provide rest for travelers. By appointment, visitors can immerse themselves in the history of transportation and communication.

Our Relais Postal Museum is an excellent destination for history buffs, writing enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to discover the past in an interactive and engaging way.
